Des Moines, IA - RH Kyle Hendricks was named the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 12-18. Hendricks is the second consecutive Cub to win the award, and the third in the first six weeks of the season.

Hendricks was dominant in his only outing of the week on May 15 against Round Rock. He matched his career-best with 11 strikeouts over eight shutout innings, while allowing just three singles and no walks. He threw 71 of his 100 pitches for strikes, and retired 16 hitters in a row at one point.

Hendricks is 4-3 with a 3.06 ERA (17 ER/ 50.0 IP) on the season and hasn't given up an earned run over his last 14.0 innings. He enters play today ranked third in the league with 54 strikeouts compared to just 11 walks. Hendricks has yet to surrender a home run in 50.0 innings.

This is the second Pitcher of the Week award in Hendricks' four-year career. The Southern League also honored him last June 3-9. Hendricks allowed one earned run in 13.0 innings, covering two starts for the Tennessee Smokies.

LHs Tsuyoshi Wada and Chris Rusin were the other Cubs to win the award this year. Wada earned the honors for the season's opening extended week of April 3-13 and Rusin won last week after tossing the PCL's first no-hitter since 2009.

The trio has made up one of the best of the pitching staffs in the PCL so far. The Cubs have allowed the fewest hits (341) and walks (94), while ranking fourth in strikeouts (352) and sixth in ERA (4.05). Their five shutouts on the campaign are tied with Round Rock for the league lead.

The Cubs hit the road for a brief four-game series against the Express starting Monday night at 7:05 Central time. Rusin (2-5, 3.92) takes the ball for the Cubs from Dell Diamond. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m. The I-Cubs return to Principal Park for a four-game home stand against Colorado Springs beginning Friday, May 23 at 7:05.
