Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Barrett Heisten has been named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for November 7-13.

Heisten scored twice and handed out six assists in Alaska's two wins at Idaho last week. Both of his goals, including the game-winner with 12:15 left in regulation, came in a 5-2 victory over the Steelheads Wednesday, November 9. He broke a 2-2 tie in that game, then sealed the win with a shorthanded empty-netter at 19:22. Two nights later, the 25-year-old Heisten dished out a career-high five assists, including a playmaker in the game's first 12 minutes, as the Aces scorched Idaho 8-3. In each win, the former NHL first-round pick finished plus-three, and he now leads the ECHL with a +8 rating for the season.

Drafted with the 20th overall selection by the Buffalo Sabres in 1999, Heisten later played in the NHL for the New York Rangers before being traded to Dallas, where he spent three years with the onetime AHL affiliate of the Stars, the Utah Grizzlies. After spending a season in Bridgeport with the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, Heisten elected to play for his hometown club in Anchorage, where he had attended high school with his brother and Aces teammate, Chris, before leaving to play two seasons at the University of Maine. In 1999, he scored 12 goals and assisted on 16 others for a Black Bears team that won the NCAA Division I national championship.

On behalf of Barrett Heisten, a case of pucks will be donated to an Anchorage area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. In Glas Co has donated over 12,500 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in 2000-01. In Glas Co also donated all of the limited-edition pucks that were used during the opening weekend and auctioned off for hurricane relief.

Heisten's heroics helped Alaska keep pace in the competitive West Division at 6-3-2 overall, two points out of the top spot, currently shared by Utah and Idaho, both 8-3.

The Aces play host to 6-1-1 Las Vegas this week, with night games against the Wranglers Wednesday and Thursday (7:15 p.m.) and the finale scheduled for Saturday at 2:05 p.m. ADT.

All Alaska games, home and away, will be broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all Alaska home games are available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
