
Muntain and Wirll recognized

Victoria, BC - Victoria Salmon Kings Goaltender Rob Muntain and Forward Mike Wirll's efforts last week were recognized by the ECHL, as they were awarded runner-up for the Goaltender and Player of the Week respectively.
Muntain started in all three contests against the Stockton Thunder last week, and finished with a record of 2-0-1. The 5'8 180lbs. native of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan finished the three game set with a goals against average of 2.00, and a save percentage of .932.
Muntain is starting his first full season as a professional goaltender. He finished last season with the Salmon Kings after joining the team once he had completed his fourth year at the University of Regina (CIS). Muntain, whose season record now stands at 4-4-1, has received recognition at all levels he has played, including Junior, University and Professional.
Wirll leads the Salmon Kings in points (14) and assists (10), adding one goal and five assists in three games against the Thunder last week. The 5'10 206lbs. native of Regina, Saskatchewan scored the first goal by a Salmon Kings player in the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Thursday night, and added two assists to finish the game with three points. Wirll completed the weekend series on Saturday, with three assists. The 23-year-old forward played 54 games last season with the Charlotte Checkers (ECHL) recording 18 goals and 24 assists for a total of 42 points.
The Salmon Kings have had one player awarded the ECHL Player of the Week last season when then Captain Brad Dexter was recognized for the week of December 6-12, 2004.
The Salmon Kings six game home stand continues tomorrow night against the West Division leading Idaho Steelheads. The three game series against the Steelheads continues on Friday November 18th and Saturday November 19th.
The Victoria Salmon Kings Hockey Club encourages all fans planning to attend Friday night's game to bring a can of non-perishable food items to donate to the Mustard Seed Food Bank.
