TONIGHT The Heat host the Ontario Reign to kick off a home-and-home series starting tonight in Stockton and shifting to Ontario on Friday night. The teams have faced each other five times already this season with the Heat going 2-2-1 against their SoCal rival but haven't met up since New Year's Eve in Ontario.

LAST TIME VS. ONTARIO Back on New Year's Eve in Ontario the Heat kicked off the game in good shape, taking a 4-2 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes, however, the Heat got in penalty trouble in the third allowing Teddy Purcell and Adrian Kempe to score power-play goals 1:15 apart in the late stages of the third.
In the three-on-three overtime, it'd be Brett Sutter who'd finish on an odd man rush to seal the Reign come-from-behind victory by a final score of 5-4.
WHO TO WATCH While he's gone a little quiet in the point front in recent games, we're going with Brandon Bollig tonight as the player to watch.
You may have missed Bollig leave with an injury midway through the game against the Stars on Sunday, however Coach Huska said it wasn't serious and Bollig is expected back in the lineup tonight for the Heat.
That is a good thing because Bollig is the only skater on the active roster to have averaged a point per game against the Reign, scoring 3 goals and adding an assist in four games against Ontario this year.
Bollig has gone 14 games without a goal but has already established a new career best in his pro career with 8 goals this season. With so many players snapping out of long scoreless or goalless droughts, we think this is the right team to help snap Bollig out of this stretch.
HITTING AND NEARING A MILESTONE If he's in the lineup tonight, Heat defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon will be playing game number 200 in his AHL career. Wotherspoon has 7 goals and 47 assists in his AHL career and is a career plus-27. Heat forward Linden Vey is three games shy of playing in his 400th professional game in the NHL and AHL and could hit that as early as this Saturday against San Jose.
HEAT SPECIAL TEAMS The Heat power play has had a rough go of it in 2017, going 3 for 70, however they've scored two power-play goals in their last 20 opportunities. The Heat are 5 for 23 on the power play against Ontario this season.
Meanwhile the Heat penalty kill has been excellent, killing off their last 21 penalties dating back to February 17 and going four-straight without allowing a power-play goal against. The team has also scored two shorthanded markers thanks to Linden Vey on February 18 and Matt Frattin on February 22.
HEATING UP Linen Vey may have had a tough stretch of games through February but he's been heating up, recording multi-point games in three of his last four games (1-1|1-1|0-0|0-2), leading the Heat with six multi-point efforts this season.
Brett Kulak, who was assigned to Stockton on February 17, has three points (1-2-3) in his four games and has gone plus-5. Garnet Hathaway has spent most of his season in Calgary but since being assigned on February 21, Hathaway has picked up three points (1-2-3) in his three games played including a multi-point effort on Sunday against Texas (1-1-2).
BUSY MARCH STARTS WITH THIRD HOME-AND-HOME OF THE YEAR The Heat play a tied season high 13-games (Nov.) in March, five of which are at home. The team kicks off their third home-and-home series of the season and look for the fortunes to change. Each previous home-and-home resulted in a loss the first night and an overtime loss the following night.
INTERESTING FACT The Stockton Heat will play their 11th game on a Wednesday, posting a 6-4-0-0 record including a 4-1-0-0 record when playing on a Wednesday night at Stockton Arena.
The Heat play four more Wednesday night games after tonight with three of them taking place on home ice.
