Heaney Named Marlins Minor League Pitcher Of Month

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced Wednesday that Jacksonville Suns left-handed starter Andrew Heaney has been named the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Month for the month of July.

In his five outings with High-A Jupiter last month, the 22-year-old recorded a 4-0 mark and 0.00 ERA (0 ER in 27.0 IP), with opposing hitters recording just a .163 average (16-98) against the southpaw in that time span. Heaney was transferred to Jacksonville on July 30 and has made two starts for the Suns this season. The lefty' extended his scoreless innings streak in his first start with the Suns on August 1 to extend that stretch to 33.0 straight frames without yielding a run.

Prior to this season, Heaney was rated by Baseball America as the No. 43 overall prospect, as well as theey third-best prospect in the Marlins organization prior to the 2013 season. The Oklahoma native was selected by the Marlins with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of Oklahoma State University.

Jacksonville begins their five-game road series tonight with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch of the series is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
