Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS -- With runners at the corners and two out, Robby Hefflinger delivered a walk-off single to left-center field to lead the Mississippi Braves to a 6-5 victory over the Jackson Generals Wednesday night. Hefflinger added a homer earlier in the game while Mycal Jones extended his hitting streak and delivered a three-run blast in the seventh.

Jones drew a one-out walk to start the 10th and took second on a balk. He then moved to third on a ground out and Tommy La Stella was intentionally walked to bring Hefflinger to the plate for the game-winning drive. With two hits in the game, Jones extended his hitting streak to 16 games. He's now hitting .403 during that span.

Mississippi (24-20, 62-52) scored six runs on 11 hits while Jackson (19-22, 48-59) plated five runs on five hits. The Braves committed two errors in the game. Christian Bethancourt singled in the first inning to extend his on-base streak to 33 games. Bethancourt is chasing Willie Cabrera's on-base streak of 38-games, a M-Braves record set in 2009.

Jackson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Chris Taylor walked to start the inning. Jack Marder then reached on a force attempt, allowing Taylor to move over to third on an error by the third baseman. Julio Morban then grounded out to second, driving in Taylor from third.

Hefflinger blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1. It was his sixth home run for the M-Braves this season. The Generals took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. John Hicks was hit by a pitch and stole second before coming in to score on Ramon Morla's triple to center field.

Marder was hit by a pitch to start the sixth. A wild pitch moved him to second and Morban followed with a RBI-double to right field, making it a 3-1 game.

The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the sixth. Dan Brewer singled and moved to second on Jones' sacrifice bunt. La Stella followed with a base hit to center, driving in Brewer and cutting the Generals lead to 3-2.

In the seventh, Omar Luna and Brewer reached on back-to-back two-out singles. Jones then blasted a three-run homer into the M-Braves bullpen, giving the Braves a 5-3 advantage.

Jackson responded in the top of the eighth. Taylor singled and Morban singled to put runners at the corners. Ji-Man Choi grounded out to first, allowing Taylor to score and cut the M-Braves lead to 5-4.

The Generals tied the game at 5-5 in the ninth. Morla walked and Jabari Blash reached on an error by the third baseman, placing runners at first and third. Denny Almonte followed with a sacrifice fly to right, driving home the tying run.

Thomas Keeling (1-3) worked one inning and picked up the win. Dominic Leone (1-1) came on in the bottom of the 10th and suffered the loss. Neither starter factored in the decision. Aaron Northcraft limited the Generals to three runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk. He struck out six batters. Trevor Miller gave up five earned runs on 10 hits, two homers and a walk in seven innings pitched.

The M-Braves and Generals square off in a doubleheader Thursday evening. In game one, M-Braves right-hander Gus Schlosser (6-3, 2.33) counters Generals lefty James Gillheeney (4-6, 4.22). Right-hander Gary Moran (1-1, 3.08) takes the hill for the Braves in game two. He'll face Generals lefty Kyle Hunter (1-0, 1.27). First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Gates open at 4:30 PM. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the first game ends.
