JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (27-19, 61-51) dropped their series opener at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium by a final score of 2-0, as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (23-22, 48-66) inched closer in the Southern League South division race.

Despite a strong start from right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (3-3), the Suns were shut out for the second consecutive game. One night after Eric Jokisch fired a no-hitter against Jacksonville at Bragan Field, the Suns once again had trouble pushing runs across.

Their best chance came in the very first inning against Blue Wahoos starter Jon Moscot (1-0). With two outs and Derek Dietrich representing the lead runner at second base, Zack Cox singled into the outfield. Dietrich raced home but was thrown out by Blue Wahoos right-fielder Yorman Rodriguez.

Devin Lohman gave the Blue Wahoos the only run they would need with a third inning RBI single, and Pensacola added another run later in the frame on a double play ball.

DeSclafani allowed just the two runs, but was still tagged with his third loss in six decisions. The right-hander allowed seven hits in six and a third innings before giving way to Grant Dayton, posting four strikeouts and walking two batters.

Moscot, meanwhile, settled down after a shaky first frame. Making his second start of the season for Pensacola, the right-hander surrendered just four hits and struck out five.

Trevor Bell pitched a perfect top of the ninth for his 12th save.

The Suns will attempt to get back on the winning side of things in game two of the five-game series on Thursday. The Suns are set to send Southern League All-Star left-hander Adam Conley (11-4, 3.04) to the mound in an attempt to even the series. The Blue Wahoos will counter with righty Daniel Renken (5-8, 3.58). First pitch is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.

Suns fans can listen to Thursday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 7:45 p.m. ET with the UF Health Suns Pre-Game Show.
