Mississippi Braves News Release

Huntsville, AL - After a two-hour rain delay, the Mississippi Braves just couldn't shake off the rust from the storm and the Huntsville Stars got just enough in a 2-1 win on Tuesday night at Joe Davis Stadium.

It was a pitcher's duel through and through, as Huntsville managed just three hits on the night. One of those hits came from catcher Anderson De La Rosa in the fourth inning, scoring Chadwin Stang to put the Stars ahead for good.

Prior to that hit, Ian Thomas had no trouble with Huntsville in the start, but the offense failed to push anyone across the plate until the ninth inning. The Braves got 10 hits but managed just a run, and it was unearned in the ninth.

Meanwhile, Brooks Hall (1-4) pitched well under pressure in the start for Huntsville, allowing nothing on six hits over five innings of work. He picked up his first double-A win.

The Stars extended their lead to 2-0 in the sixth inning. It was started by Stang again, who singled to lead off the frame. Second baseman Nick Shaw followed with a hit to put them at the corners, and Jason Rogers hit a deep fly ball to left, sacrificing Stang home.

Thomas followed by walking right fielder Brock Kjeldgaard, and that ended his night. He allowed just two runs on three hits over 5 1/3, but suffered his seventh loss of the season.

Juan Jaime, Shae Simmons, and Ryne Harper combined to hold the Stars hitless over the final 2 2/3 innings. For Simmons, it was a successful double-A debut, working a scoreless eighth.

The Braves managed to push across an unearned run in the ninth. Dan Brewer reached on an error, moving to second on an Edward Salcedo single. Jose Martinez loaded the bases with his hit to right, and Omar Luna drove in the run with a force out of Martinez at second.

With the tying run standing at third, Kevin Schackelford got Braeden Schlehuber to ground out to the catcher, ending the game and picking up the save.

Four of the top five hitters in the Braves order had two hits on the day, including Mycal Jones, Brewer, Salcedo and Martinez. The one man not included was Tommy La Stella, who went 0-for-4 and saw his record 23-game hit streak come to an end.

With two hits on the day, Jones has now hit safely in a team-high 15 games

Now the Braves return home to take on the Mariners' affiliate Jackson Generals for seven games in five days. The series opens on Wednesday at 7:00 PM, as the Braves go with right-hander Aaron Northcraft (6-8, 3.67). Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 6:30 PM CT with the "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com.
