Hawks Swept by Hot Rods

The South Bend Silver Hawks (78-56, 30-34) lost their fifth straight game Tuesday and fell 6-4 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods in front of 1,541 fans at Coveleski Stadium. The Silver Hawks were swept in the four-game series and are in the midst of their longest losing streak of the season.

Andrew Bellatti (7-3) earned the win out of the bullpen for the Hot Rods, allowing one unearned run on a hit over two innings. Andrew Barbosa (2-5) was saddled with the loss for South Bend, surrendering three earned runs on two hits over four innings. Austin Hubbard worked the final inning and tallied his 22nd save.

Eric Groff finished 2-for-4 for the Silver Hawks who outhit the Hot Rods 9-4 in a losing effort. Eight of nine Silver Hawks starters recorded at least one hit. Kerry Jenkins hit a two-run double in the fourth inning. Matt Helm laced an RBI single in the fifth inning. Groff doubled in a run in the eighth inning.

The Silver Hawks held a lead for just two innings in the entire series.

Right-hander Jesse Darrah worked four innings out of the Silver Hawks bullpen and allowed three earned runs on two hits over four innings. Jake Barrett worked the ninth inning and did not allow a run.

Right-hander Roberto Gomez started for Bowling Green and did not factor in the decision. Gomez went three scoreless innings and struck out one. Left-hander Felipe Rivero was first out of the bullpen and allowed three earned runs on five hits over three innings.

The Silver Hawks and Lugnuts begin a three-game series Wednesday at Coveleski Stadium. Right-hander Conrad Flynn (0-0, 5.93) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by righty Kramer Champlin (4-1, 4.10). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST.
