Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Two third period Fargo goals were the winning margin for the Force against the Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday at Scheels Arena.
Both of those crucial scores came from defensemen. At 8:46, Brasen Bosen led a Fargo rush up right wing, beating Calvin Vachon to the short side with what proved to be the game-winner. Waterloo went to a power play almost two minutes later, but could not even the score. Instead, Leo Gruba came out of the penalty box and capitalized when a clearing attempt took a bad bounce off the glass. After avoiding Vachon's pokecheck bid, Gruba was left with a tap-in goal.
The loss keeps Waterloo stalled three points behind the Sioux City Musketeers with two weeks remaining during the USHL season. The Hawks are in third place with five games left. The Tri-City Storm occupy the fourth spot, three points behind Waterloo.
Fargo's Tom Leppa had scored the first goal Saturday, 6:30 into the action. The puck came from the right boards to Leppa waiting at the inside edge of the circle, and the forward from Finland snapped in a low shot to the stick side.
The game was even just 39 seconds later. Reid Morich found the puck in the offensive zone and made a spinning centering pass. That feed went off a Fargo defender and past goalie Anton Castro.
John Mustard gave the Black Hawks the lead at 6:41 of the second. Near the top of the right circle, Waterloo's top goal-scorer sizzled the puck inside the opposite post.
Fargo's Harper Bentz tied the game again at 12:48, cashing in a rebound from just outside the crease.
Waterloo finishes the regular season series against the Force with an 0-4-1 record.
After two games against the USHL's best team, the Black Hawks return to Young Arena Tuesday to meet the Eastern Conference-leading Dubuque Fighting Saints. The 7:05 p.m. contest is a Twofer Tuesday: throughout the game, fans age 21 and over can cash in on a two-for-one deal on their favorite beers.
