Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (38-12-3-4, 83 pts) prevailed with a 7-6 overtime win over the USA NTDP U18s (15-8-0-1, 31 pts) on Saturday night.

The Fighting Saints stripped a puck from James Hagens early in overtime and rushed up the ice with Fisher Scott trailing behind. Beckett Hendrickson carried into the zone, found Scott at the top and Scott snapped home the game-winner for Dubuque. It was Scott's eighth goal of the season and second overtime game-winner.

After a back-and-forth first 40 minutes, the third period was mainly filled with USA chances. Dylan Johnson, in his ninth USHL game, stopped all 15 USA shots he faced in the period to help force overtime while the Saints launched just four shots in the third.

Hendrickson opened the scoring in the first period to begin the seesaw with his first of four points in the contest. In 11 games for the Saints, Hendrickson has five goals and 13 points with Saturday's four-point night.

The teams traded goals throughout the first with Matt Desiderio launching in his second of the season. Teddy Stiga and James Hagens scored for USA in the opening frame. Hagens finished the night with four goals and five points, but the Saints held Cole Eiserman off the board for the second-straight night.

Each team scored four times in the second period with Noah Powell (39), Colin Frank (9), Hendrickson's (23) second and Lucas St. Louis (15) scoring for the Saints. St. Louis' goal came on the power-play to tie the Saints' franchise record for most power-play goals with 15 in his career. St. Louis has scored 14 of his 15 this season on the man-advantage.

Overall, Johnson made 31 saves in his fifth win for the Saints. The team was disciplined all weekend, taking just two penalties Friday and one on Saturday. Dubuque killed all three USA chances.

Dubuque's magic number for the top seed in the Eastern Conference is down to one ahead of a matchup in Waterloo on Tuesday with the Black Hawks.
