Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Ben Klafczynski bloop single in the bottom of the 12th inning provided the walk-off winner, as the Boise Hawks completed a three-game sweep of the Yakima Bears, grabbing a 3-2 victory before 3,017 fans at Memorial Stadium.
The victory for the Hawks was their seventh straight at home and their third in a row in extra innings over the Bears. The win moves Boise into sole possession of first-place in the Northwest League East Division and four-games above the .500 mark at 12-8.
Pin-Chieh Chen led off the 12th with a walk off reliever Mike Blake and was sacrificed to second by Brad Zapenas. Klafczynski followed, fisting a ball over shortstop David Norodowski's head, with Chen scoring ahead of Henry Zabala's throw home.
Yakima took an early lead in the third on a Westly Moss sacrifice fly, but Boise responded, taking advantage of a pair of Bears errors in the fifth to score an unearned run. Zapenas gave the Hawks a brief 2-1 lead in the seventh with an RBI single, but Jae-Yun Kim lined a solo homer leading off the eighth to knot the score at 2-2.
Pitching was the story for both sides, as Boise starter Luis Liria went six innings, allowing just three hits, while Kyler Burke allowed just two hits in his four innings of work. Newcomer Colin Richardson worked out of jams in the 11th and 12th to pick up the win in his Hawks debut.
Randy Hamrick did not allow an earned run in his six innings for Yakima, while Kable Hogben tossed three shutout innings in relief - working out of a second and third, one out jam in the ninth.
Reggie Golden went 3-for-5 and Yaniel Cabezas had two hits in the win for Boise, while Kim went 2-for-5 in the loss for the Bears.
Boise continues their homestand tomorrow night, opening a five-game set with the Everett Aquasox. Ben Wells gets the start for the Hawks at 7:15 p.m.
