
Two Former Bears MLB All Stars

Major League Baseball has announced today the final members of the National and American League teams for the 2011 All-Star Game, and the two players honored are both former Yakima Bears.
Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko and Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino were voted in to the final spots by the fans.
Konerko, who started his professional career with the Bears in 1994, is batting .319 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI with the White Sox entering Thursday's play. Konerko hit .288 with 58 RBI in 67 games with the Bears as an 18 year-old.
Victorino played with Yakima in 2000 and the then 19 year-old hit .246 with 21 stolen bases in 61 games. This season with the Phillies Victorino has a .303 batting average, nine home runs and 34 RBI entering Thursday's play.
Victorino will represent the National League and Konerko the American League after the two were selected by fans in an online voting process that followed the two managers' selections for the respective squads.
The 2011 All-Star Game will be played July 12th at Chase Field, the home of the Yakima Bears parent club the Arizona Diamondbacks.
