Boise Hawks News Release
The Boise Hawks (9-9) defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils (9-9) by a final score of 4-2 at Gesa Stadium on Monday night. Boise got a four-run 2nd inning and six innings of shutout baseball from the bullpen, as they look to take the series in the rubber match tomorrow.
The Hawks broke out in a big way for the first runs of the game. Boise scored four times to take an early 4-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Danny Edgeworth led the inning off with a double. After Edgeworth's hit, Luis Castro and Daniel Jipping both walked to load the bases. LJ Hatch would knock two runs in to make it a 2-0 Hawks lead on a base hit.
Matt Hearn followed it up with an RBI single to give Boise a 3-0 lead. After Hearn, it was Luke Morgan that added another one on with a sacrifice fly giving Boise the 4-0 advantage.
Hawks starter Miguel Ausua went three innings for Boise allowing two runs on five hits. The two runs for the Dust Devils came in the third inning on an RBI double for Owen Miller and an RBI single for Grant Little to make the game 4-2 Hawks.
But the Boise bullpen was lights out as they retired 17 straight. Both Colton Pate and Peyton Gray, in their professional debuts, threw three-up and three-down innings, Pate the 4th inning and Gray the 5th inning. Then, it was the winning pitcher Keinter Olivares who gave Boise three innings of no-hit baseball.
Olivares handed it over to Roberts in the 9th and despite an infield hit for Grant Little, Roberts got his 4th save of the season and got Boise back to the .500 mark.
Dust Devils Starter Angel Acevedo was the losing pitcher. The Hawks will play the final game of the series with Tri-City tomorrow at 8:15 MT.
Boise returns home on Wednesday, July 4th to face the Eugene Emeralds in the first of two fireworks nights on the July 4th-6th homestand. Get your tickets at BoiseHawks.com or call 208-322-5000.
