(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - After erasing a three-run deficit late, the Vancouver Canadians allowed a lone run in the top of the 9th inning, falling 5-4 to Salem-Keizer on Tuesday evening out at sun-drenched Scotiabank Field. Vancouver finishes its eight-game homestand with a 5-3 (.625) record.
Vancouver ran into trouble right out of the gates as RHP Randy Pondler allowed a pair of home runs to 3B Kevin Villar (two-run) and 1B Wander Franco that helped catapult Salem-Keizer to an early 3-0 in the top of the 1st inning.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Vancouver would pull to within one when SS Vincent Capra doubled to right field scoring RF Brandon Polizzi (fielding error) to bring the score to 3-2 Volcanoes.
After Salem-Keizer got a sacrifice fly from CF Jose Layer that cashed in LF Mikey Edie in the top of the 4th, Vancouver's comeback began with a DH Griffin Conine RBI doubled in the bottom of the 5th scoring SS Vincent Capra (single) to bring the Canadians to within a run. The comeback would be completed in the bottom of the 8th inning when DH Griffin Conine hit his 2nd home run of the season onto the "hey y'all!" Porch evening the game at 4-4.
Vancouver would stumble in the top of the 9th inning when RHP Marcus Reyes allowed a leadoff double to SS Nico Giarratano followed by a wild pitch that moved Giarrantano over to third base with no one out. With a drawn in infield and one out, Reyes watched CF Jose Layer hit a high chopper over his glove and into shallow center field bringing home the game's winning run as Giarrantano crossing home plate made the final 5-4 Salem-Keizer. Vancouver would leave a lone runner on in the bottom of the 9th inning to fall to 8-11 (.421) on the season.
