Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Robbie Fromm-Delorme scored a power-play goal 9:45 into overtime to give the Winterhawks a 3-2 win over the Everett Silvertips and send his team to Round 2 of the 2023 WHL Playoffs with a 4-1 series victory.
Late in Portland's power play, Jack O'Brien dished to Gabe Klassen at the bottom of the right circle for a centering feed to Fromm-Delorme, who one-timed the shot through Tyler Palmer and into the net for the win. Jan Špunar turned aside 19 of 21 shots for his fourth win of the playoffs.
After conceding twice early in Game 4, the Winterhawks got off on the right foot in Game 5 as Klassen put his team ahead 17:39 into the first period. Marek Alscher's shot from range hit the mask of Palmer and bounced to the side where Klassen was waiting to tap it home for the 1-0 advantage.
Portland controlled play for large parts of the second period but failed to further dent Palmer, and the Silvertips' power play came to life late in the middle frame as Austin Roest and Jackson Berezowski lit the lamp just 1:45 apart for a 2-1 Everett lead heading into the third.
The Hawks chased the tying goal to start the third, and a four-minute power play gave them the opportunity they needed. A Luca Cagnoni shot hit a body in front and found James Stefan in the left circle for a quick shot into the yawning cage to force OT.
Portland will now face the Kamloops Blazers in the second round. The series opens at Sandman Centre in Kamloops on Friday, April 14.
