Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs earned a walkoff win on Saturday, scoring a run in the ninth inning to beat Sioux Falls 3-2 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 17-10 on the second half of the season.

Tied at two heading into the bottom of the ninth, Albenis Machado singled off of Patrick Lawler (3-1) with one out. Phil Hawke then stepped to the plate, and ripped a 1-0 pitch down the right field line. The ball hit the fence in front of the bullpen and kicked away from right fielder Cory Harris, allowing Machado to score the winning run all the way from first base.

Lincoln had trailed most of the night, but found a way to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded and one out, Brandon Jones hit a sacrifice fly off of former Saltdogs pitcher Amad Stephens, scoring Pichi Balet from third and tying the game at two. Lincoln has now scored six runs against the Canaries bullpen in this series.

The first six innings of the game featured an odd pitchers' duel between Lincoln starter Jim Paduch and Sioux Falls hurler Noel Baca. Paduch walked four batters, and Baca issued five free passes plus a hit batter, but each pitcher only gave up one earned run before departing. Each team scored a run in the third, with the Saltdogs scoring on Hawke's RBI groundout, but the Canaries plated an unearned run in the fourth on a passed ball.

Daryl Arreola tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, striking out four, and Forrest Cory (1-0) retired both men he faced in the ninth inning to earn his first win of the season. Hawke ended the night with two of the three Lincoln RBI.

The Saltdogs go for the sweep of the three-game series Sunday night at 6:05. Righty Jarrett Gardner will make the start for Lincoln.

The current Saltdogs homestand runs through August 13. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
