Palmisano, Pelicans drop Cats 7-4

PENSACOLA, Fla - Lou Palmisano's sixth inning home run broke a 5-5 tie as the Pelicans edged the Cats 7-5 on Saturday night at Pelican Park.

It was Pensacola's fourth straight win and second win in a row to start the three-game weekend series with the Cats.

The Pelicans scored first in third inning with a four-run frame. With one out, Kevin Reynolds walked, Francisco Leandro was hit by a pitch before Antoin Gray doubled home a run followed by consecutive RBI singles by Antoin Gray and Chase Burch. Marcos Rodriguez came in to score later in the inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Adam Darby.

After the Cats narrowed the lead to 4-1 in the fourth, the Pelcians got a home run from Luis Guance in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 5-1.

The Cats would knot the game 5-5 in the sixth inning as they got back-to-back RBI singles by Kelley Gulledge and Isa Garcia and later in the inning a two-run single by Brian Fryer.

But in the bottom of the sixth with one out, Palmisano blasted his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left for a 6-5 Pelicans lead. Pensacola added a run in the seventh following a throwing error charged to Michael Bell for a 7-5 advantage.

The Cats got a leadoff double from Gulledge in the eighth but stranded him at second as the next three batters were retired by reliever Tyler Wilson. Wilson threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to notch his third win of the season. In the ninth, closer Hunter Davis permitted only a two-out walking before getting John Allen to pop up to end the game. It was Davis' 19th save of the season.

Cats' starter Nat Harris (4-6) took the loss as he allowed six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of work .

Fryer was 2-for-5 in the game with two runs batted in to extend his hitting streak to 21 games.

The series finale is on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. with Joel Kirsten starting on the mound for the Cats.
