Havoc Win Two at Home, Fall on Road

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc won a swept of home games over the Bloomington Thunder winning 4-2 on Friday and 4-0 on Saturday before dropping a 2-1 decision on the road to the Mississippi Surge Sunday.
Friday, February 7 - Bloomington 2, Huntsville 4
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Bloomington Thunder.
No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Paul Kurceba at 3:13 of the third period.
Huntsville was led by Kurceba, who grabbed one goal and one assist.
The Havoc excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Huntsville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.1 shots per game it averages.
Others who scored for Huntsville included Stuart Stefan, Ben Schoeneberger, and Nick Lazorko, who each put in one. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Leland Fidler, who had two and Justin Cseter and Brock Sawyer, who each chipped in one.
Bloomington was not heavily penalized during the game, and finished with eight minors and one major totalling 21 minutes. The Thunder stayed under their season average of 28.0 penalties minutes per game this season. Bloomington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Huntsville power plays. The Thunder put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 20.2 they average per game. Bloomington's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 13 shots on net during the game.
The Thunder were led by Eddie Olyzck, who had one goal and one assist. Olyzck scored 5:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington. Harry Mahesh assisted on the tally. Reid MacLeod also scored for Bloomington. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Curtis Megginson and Burke Gallimore, who contributed one a piece.
The Havoc's Jesse Kallechy stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Huntsville ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. BJ OBrien rejected 32 shots on goal for Bloomington.
Saturday, February 8 - Bloomington 0, Huntsville 4
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Eric Alexander racked up one point to lead the Huntsville Havoc to a 4-0 victory over the Bloomington Thunder.
Huntsville's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Havoc allow 2.9 goals per game. Huntsville put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.3 it averages per game.
Huntsville also got points from Nick Lazorko, who also had one goal and one assist and Mike Gurtler, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ray Ortiz also scored for Huntsville. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Kyle Frieday, who had two and Stuart Stefan, Justin Cseter, Scott Harff, and Josh Harris, who contributed one a piece.
Bloomington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Huntsville power plays. The Thunder's offense operated below they season average. Bloomington puts an average of 2.4 pucks into the net per game. The Thunder's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Bloomington finished with 27 penalty minutes. The Thunder relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Travis Granbois, Nic Polaski and Reid MacLeod took 13 of the team's 20 shots. Bloomington's defensemen bolstered the Thunder's offensive attack, as they bombarded Jesse Kallechy with nine shots.
Kallechy rejected 20 shots on goal for the Havoc. Huntsville ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. BJ OBrien made 35 saves for Bloomington on 39 shots. The Thunder registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
Sunday, February 9 - Huntsville 1, Mississippi Surge 2
BILOXI, MS - Mississippi Surge relied on the sparkling performance of Dan Clarke in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Huntsville Havoc.
Mississippi Surge was sparked by Dean Moore, who registered one goal. Moore scored on the power play 16:36 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge earned a power play opportunity when Eric Alexander was put in the box for hooking.
Mississippi Surge's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Huntsville power plays. Mississippi Surge put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.4 it averages per game.
Kyle Kudroch also scored for Mississippi Surge. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Dion Campbell and Bill Baker, who each chipped in one.
Huntsville's offense operated below it season average. The Havoc average 3.6 goals per game.
Huntsville was led by Nick Lazorko, who scored the team's only goal. Lazorko scored 12:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Josh Harris assisted on the tally.
Clarke recorded 27 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Kevin Genoe made 34 saves for the Havoc on 36 shots. Huntsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
