Huntsville Havoc News Release
PELHAM, ALABAMA - The Huntsville Havoc made the short trip down Interstate-65 to take on their in-state rivals Saturday night and were handed their worst loss of the season.
The 6-2 result was Birmingham's ninth straight win to start the season, and Huntsville's fourth consecutive loss.
"We had another terrible start and never recovered," said Havoc Head Coach Glenn Detulleo. "We have to regroup after a tough weekend and focus on getting things turned around."
The Havoc once again allowed the Bulls (9-0-0) to get off to a quick start, allowing three powerplay goals in the first period and a fourth score in the second.
Ryan Salkeld finally got the Havoc (4-4-1) on the board with a powerplay goal two minutes into the third period on a redirected shot from Trevor Gerling. Christian Powers sparked the hopes of an epic comeback with a tally from atop the left circle about ten minutes later.
However, Birmingham immediately responded with two goals in two minutes to account for the final score of 6-2.
Salkeld's goal keeps his six-game point streak alive (4g, 2a).
This is Huntsville's third loss in three meetings against Birmingham for this year. The Havoc lost only one game to the Bulls last season.
Huntsville once again held the edge in shots on goal, but by a slim margin of 33-31.
