Evansville Thunderbolts News Release
Mark Petaccio was acquired from the Peoria Rivermen last week and made a valiant effort to carry his new/former team, the Evansville Thunderbolts, over the same Rivermen. Despite a strong effort headlined by a crucial goal in the second period, Evansville would fall 4-2.
Down 1-0 in the second period, it was Mark Petaccio tallying the game-tying goal at the 4:55 mark from Pijus Rulevicius and Chase Nieuwendyk. Peoria would regain the lead a few minutes later as Austin Vieth tallied his second goal of the night, both goals assisted by Will Smith and Ralfs Grinbergs. Down 3-1 in the third period, the final 20 minutes would be filled with physicality, finished off with Nick Wright taking down two different Peoria players. After a penalty to Ralfs Grinbergs late, Evansville would pull Braeden Ostepchuk, and score a 5 on 4 goal from Frank Schumacher at 18:31, from Brandon Lubin and Petaccio. Peoria would come back with an empty net goal to seal the deal with 50 seconds left, 4-2.
For Evansville, Petaccio led the way with a goal and an assist, while Ostepchuk made 31 saves.
The Thunderbolts hit the road with games in Birmingham on Wednesday, Peoria on Friday, and Quad City on Saturday. The Bolts return home on Friday, November 30th , and Saturday, December 1st , hosting Quad City both nights.
