LAST TIME OUT: Tanner Creel made 26 saves including 12 in the first period but the Roanoke offense never got in gear as the Rail Yard Dawgs were shut out by the Mayhem, 3-0, Friday night at Berglund Center. Jordan Ruby stopped all 26 shots he faced to earn the shutout for Macon.
BAKK TO THE STINGRAYS: Rail Yard Dawgs defenseman Cam Bakker was called up to the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays on Tuesday. Bakker opened the season in South Carolina but did not appear in a game before being released on November 5. He joined the Dawgs and played two games, recorded three assists and was +5 in the two Roanoke wins over the weekend. Bakker made his ECHL debut in the Stingrays 4-2 win over Atlanta on Tuesday.
AGAINST THE MARKSMEN: Saturday represents the third of 13 meetings between the Rail Yard Dawgs and the Marksmen. Fayetteville has won each of the first two; it beat Roanoke, 2-1, on SPHL opening night October 19 in North Carolina and the Marksmen took out the Dawgs, 8-5, on October 26 at Berglund Center. The Rail Yard Dawgs also lost their first two matchups with Fayetteville in the 2017-18 season but ultimately went 9-4-0 in their 13 games.
HELLO OLD FRIEND: Former Rail Yard Dawg Zach Tatrn signed with the Marksmen last week and has now played three games for Fayetteville. Tatrn has a goal and two assists in a Marksmen sweater. The center appeared in 68 games for the Dawgs over the past two seasons and had 18 goals and 22 assists in his time with Roanoke.
LEAKY D: The Marksmen average 3.7 goals per game, the third-best goal-scoring offense in the league, but have struggled in keeping the puck out of their net. Fayetteville surrenders four goals per game which is the second-worst goal-scoring defense in the league.
IN NET: Tanner Creel has started all four of Roanoke's games since Brad Barone was called up to ECHL Norfolk. Creel is 2-3-0 with a 3.43 GAA and .903 SV% on the season.media
AWAY FROM HOME: Saturday's game is just the third road game that the Dawgs will play this season. Roanoke has dropped each of the previous two; a 2-1 loss in Fayetteville on October 19 and a 4-2 loss in Knoxville on November 2. The Rail Yard Dawgs went 13-12-3 in their 28 road games last season and 5-1-0 in Fayetteville.
PENALTIES LIVE: The Dawgs went 2-for-3 on the penalty kill on Friday, dropping their PK percentage to 72.7%, the second-lowest in the league. Roanoke has allowed a power play goal in six of its seven games.
UP NEXT: The Rail Yard Dawgs will return home to again take on the Marksmen on Thanksgiving at Berglund Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
