Havoc come out on top 6-4
January 13, 2012 - SPHL (SPHL)
Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
The Pensacola Ice Flyers travelled to northern Alabama to take on the Huntsville Havoc for the second time in a week. The Ice Flyers have won the previous two meetings 4-0 and 5-1, but the Havoc would come out on top 6-4 tonight.
With the second best powerplay percentage in the SPHL, the Ice Flyers did not take long to boost that stat as Mike Carter buried the puck past Havoc goalie Matt Hache, with Donnie Harris assisting on the play. Huntsville then drew even 3 minutes later when Stuart Stefan of the Havoc set up Ray Ortiz for their first goal of the night. Two minutes later, 11:20 in the first, Dennis Sicard would score his first of two on the night and put Huntsville up 2-1.
Huntsville increased their lead to 4-1 with two goals in 1:22. The first was scored by Justin Fox 5:25 into the second, followed by Ryan Kretzer's first of the contest at 6:47. Carter then set up Chris Wilson beautifully a couple minutes later to cut the Havoc lead in half, 4-2.
Kretzer would strike quick again just 50 seconds in the third with a powerplay marker, scoring his second of the night. With Huntsville leading 5-2, the Ice Flyers refused to go away quietly. Andrew Harrison scored half way through the final frame, as Dan Buccella and Harris set up him. Carter was then credited with his second as well with a shorthanded goal, with assists from Tyler Soehner and Harris (his 3rd assist of the game). Huntsville's Sicard then spoiled the Ice Flyers comeback and gave the Havoc some breathing room, scoring his second and giving his team a 6-4 lead going in to the final minutes.
The game ended 6-4 for Huntsville and ended Pensacola's 6-game winning streak. The Havoc outshot the Ice Flyers 32-26. The Havoc would sweep the stars of the game: Sicard the 1st star, Kretzer the 2nd, and Ortiz the 3rd.
The Ice Flyers travel to Augusta for a Saturday night contest starting at 6:35 PM CST, and Columbus faces the Havoc in Huntsville Saturday.
