Mississippi Surge News Release
Halfway Home:The Mississippi Surge hit the halfway mark of their Southern Professional Hockey League schedule (game 28 of 56) and their home schedule (game 14 of 28) tonight hosting the Augusta RiverHawks.
Records: The Surge is 10-14-3 for 22 points in seventh place.
Augusta is 22-7-2 for 46 points in first place.
Season Series:This is the fifth meeting of the season between the two teams who played in last season's President's Cup final series. Augusta has won three of the four games, but the Surge won the most recent meeting, 5-2 here on December 27th. The teams will meet each other one more time this season, here on March 16th.
Recent Action: The Surge is coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Mississippi RiverKings on Sunday. Augusta also went into overtime in its last contest, beating Columbus 4-3 on Wednesday night.
Tempers, Tempers, Boys: The last time these teams met, they combined for a Surge season high of 144 penalty minutes. The Surge accounted for 56 of the PIM, the most in a game this season. Interestingly, the 88 penalty minutes Augusta accumulated was not a team high. Augusta had 89 PIM on October 22nd, in a 5-1 loss to Huntsville. Augusta leads the league with 25.61 PIM a game.
Special K: Matt Kinnunen had a goal and an assist in last Sunday's game for the Surge, stretching his point scoring streak to four games. In that stretch, he has three goals and two assists for five points.
Next Up: The Surge will be in action again next Friday at Fayetteville, for the first meeting of the season with the FireAntz. Fans can meet the Surge tomorrow at 1:30 at Ohr-O'Keefe museum of art. Players will be on hand helping children paint masks for Mardi Gras. Augusta plays at home tomorrow against Pensacola. The Surge will next play at home against Pensacola on Tuesday, January 24th.
