August 24, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Hartford Athletic News Release
Hartford Athletic captured the victory 3-2 over Atlanta United 2 in front of a near capacity crowd of 4,810 at Dillon Stadium to cap off USL Supporters Week.
The Boys in Green took the lead early as Ryan Williams stepped up to the spot and buried a penalty in the 27th minute. Athletic would battle with a few more chances and strong play from new keeper Cody Cropper to carry the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The tide turned early in the second half as Atlanta scored two goals in two minutes to reclaim the lead on the feet of Carleton (57') and Vázquez (59'). The hero and danger man Wojtek Wojcik entered the match in the 68th minute and found himself alone in front of the net burying a beautiful header off a cross from Angulo. Atlanta's Carleton would subsequently get sent off with a red card in the 85th minute allowing Hartford to play up a man for the remainder of the match. Wojcik would find himself on the end of another cross -- this time by Hord -- bagging his second of the match (89') on a glancing header to steal it at the death.
Hartford Athletic returns to action on September 1st as they hit the road to take on St. Louis FC followed by their next home match on September 7th vs. Loudoun United.
