
Harrisburg Slips Past Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- Harrisburg scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch, and the Senators slipped past Trenton 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Trenton has now lost five consecutive games against Harrisburg.
Harrisburg (46-55) broke a tie in the eighth inning with a run to take a 2-1 lead. Center fielder Edgardo Baez doubled to start the inning off of Thunder Reliever Grant Duff (3-1). He moved to third base on a wild pitch with no outs. Duff nearly worked out of the jam. He retired Designated Hitter Leonard Davis on a foul pop out for the first out of the inning. Then, he struck out Third baseman Joel Guzman for the second out. After intentionally walking Left fielder Marvin Lowrance, he faced Catcher Luke Montz. But, his first offering to Montz was a wild pitch, which allowed Baez to score the go-ahead run. Duff yielded one hit and one run over three innings to take the loss.
Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Davis doubled off of Trenton Starting Pitcher Jason Stephens. Guzman followed with an RBI double to plate Davis and give the Senators the lead. Trenton tied the game with a run in the third inning. With two outs, Shortstop Eduardo Nunez picked up a bunt single. He came home on an RBI double by Catcher Jesus Montero. Trenton (50-52) left 10 men on base in the loss and went 0 x 7 with RISP. Harrisburg went 2 x 13 with RISP and left nine on base. Nunez had three hits in the loss for the Thunder.
Stephens scattered seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. He only allowed only run and struck out two. Trenton Reliever Humberto Sanchez worked 2 2/3 shutout innings in relief of Stephens. Harrisburg Reliever Carlos Martinez (6-4) picked up the win by tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Harrisburg Reliever Jack Spradlin retired the final two batters of the game for his fourth save. Harrisburg Starting Pitcher Adrian Alaniz yielded six hits and one run over five innings for a no-decision.
Trenton and Harrisburg will play a double-header at Waterfront Park on Wednesday. LHP Wilkin De La Rosa (3-5, 3.84) will start for Trenton against Harrisburg RHP Erik Arnesen (6-3, 2.96) in the first game. In the second game, RHP Josh Schmidt (7-2, 1.36) will start for Trenton against Harrisburg RHP Brad Meyers (1-0, 1.80). The first game of the double-header will start at 6:05 p.m.
