Alvarez Leads Curve to Win

ALTOONA, PA - Pirates No. 1 prospect Pedro Alvarez continued his outstanding July as the Curve slugger belted two RBI doubles in Altoona's 5-2 win over the Binghamton Mets (AA-New York Mets) in the second of a four game series Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark.

The middle of the Curve order had a field day at the plate Tuesday as 3-4-5 hitters Jose Tabata, Alvarez, and 1B Miles Durham all had multi-hit nights. Tabata going 2-for-4 scoring two runs, Alvarez finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Durham recorded an RBI double in a 2-for-4 effort.

Starter Derek Hankins (3-3) matched his season long start with 6.0 innings allowing two runs on just four hits and striking out four batters for his second consecutive win. Mets No. 4 prospect Brad Hold (2-4) picks up his first loss since 7/8 allowing five runs on 10 hits in 6.1 innings.

The Curve (41-63) continue their series with the B-Mets Wednesday night at BCB. Game three is set to start at 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network. Wednesday matches up two southpaws with Daniel Moskos (7-8, 3.90) getting the call for the Curve while Eric Niesen (1-5, 7.36) will be on the hill for Binghamton (39-62).

It's another Win-It Wednesday at Blair County Ballpark. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a guaranteed winning scratch off ticket courtesy of Giant Eagle, Snyder's of Hanover, WALY 103.9 and WTAJ-TV.
