Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that guard Mike Harris (6-6, 235, Rice) is the seventh GATORADE Call-Up in franchise history and the fifth this season, giving the Vipers the league-lead, after signing a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards.

It is Harris' second GATORADE Call-Up this season after earning one with the Houston Rockets on December 23. Harris saw action in two games, recording five points and three rebounds in 11 minutes of action. Harris also played for the Rockets during 17 regular season and three playoff games in 2008.

A Western Conference All-Star, Harris is leading the league in scoring at 26.3 points and fourth in the league in rebounding at 9.8 per game. Harris scored a career-high 48 points (second highest total in franchise history, single-game high in the league this season) to go with a career-high 24 rebounds (tied for highest total in franchise history and second highest total in the league this season) on January 17 at Dakota. That was one of 13 double-doubles Harris has recorded this season. He broke the 30-point plateau on seven other occasions and it was one of two times he had more than 20 rebounds in a game. He led the Vipers in scoring 17 times and rebounding 12 times.

"We think Mike Harris has been the overall most productive player in the NBA D-League this season while serving as the leader of the current first place team in the West Conference, so he rightfully deserves his call up to the Washington Wizards. We are very grateful to Mike for his contributions both on and off the court with the Vipers and the vital role he has played in establishing a winning environment with our team. We are pulling for his success and wish him the best during his time with the Wizards," Vipers General Manager Gersson Rosas said.

Harris becomes the tenth Vipers alumnus in the NBA at this point, joining Jermaine Taylor (Houston Rockets), Antonio Anderson (Oklahoma City Thunder), Garrett Temple (Rockets), Jawad Williams (Cleveland Cavaliers), C.J. Watson (Golden State Warriors), Aaron Brooks (Rockets), Shannon Brown (Los Angeles Lakers), Joey Dorsey (Sacramento Kings) and Steve Novak (Los Angeles Clippers).
