Red Claws Celebrate One Year Anniversary Thursday

February 24, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Maine Celtics News Release

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, will mark the first anniversary of the franchise tomorrow night with "Crusher's Birthday Party Night" during the team's game vs. the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. The announcement was made by Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings.

The Red Claws franchise was officially awarded by the NBA Development League and announced on February 25, 2009 with a raucous press conference held at Portland High School. One year later, the team has just passed the midpoint of its first season. With a record of 20-13, the Red Claws are currently in second place in the East Conference and aiming for a playoff appearance in its first season.

"It is so incredible to think that a full year has gone by since the team was announced," said Jennings. "It has been a whirlwind - renovating the Expo, building the team, playing games. We are so proud of the fact that every game to date has sold out, and we are so grateful for the incredible support the state of Maine has shown the Red Claws. We hope that they will come out tomorrow night to help us celebrate."

The Red Claws will celebrate the date with "Crusher's Birthday Party Night" during tomorrow night's game vs. the Mad Ants. Mascots from around the state have been working for weeks perfecting a half-time routine, and member of Crusher's Kids Club Presented by Oakhurst Dairy will be invited onto the court to sing Happy Birthday to Maine's favorite basketball playing crustacean. To honor the organization's commitment to the community, the team has added a charitable element to the event with "Crusher's Birthday Wish". Fans will be encouraged to make a $5 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine by texting WISH to 90999. All donations texted between the hours of 6 PM to 10 PM tomorrow night will go directly to the Maine chapter of Make-A-Wish. Fans may also make a donation by purchasing tickets to tomorrow night's game online at www.maineredclaws.com and entering the special offer code WISH to make a $2 per ticket donation. A Make-A-Wish child will also participate in activities throughout the night, including leading the team out as honorary team captain.

Tickets are available for the February 25 game may be purchased online at www.maineredclaws.com, in person at the Red Claws offices located at 413 Congress Street in Portland, and at the Portland Expo Box Office tonight and tomorrow night beginning three hours before game time. Tip-off is 7:30 PM for both games.
