Altoona Curve News Release
Bowie, Md. - Altoona Curve starter Tom Harlan led Altoona to a 3-1 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie. The southpaw went a career-high 6.1 innings in just his fourth start of his Eastern League career.
Willy Garcia collected his first home run of since June 30 in the second inning and gave Altoona the early lead. The Curve left fielder belted a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall that scored Elias Diaz.
The Baysox came to within one in the bottom half of the inning. After a fielding error by Josh Bell put Chris Marrero at second, Marrero advanced to third on a groundout to second and scored on another ball hit towards second to make it a 2-1 lead.
Altoona tallied their third run of the game in the fourth. Stetson Allie led off the inning with a double off the wall in left and scored when Diaz grounded a double inside the first base bag.
Harlan (1-1) earned his first Double-A win after he allowed one unearned run on just five hits. The California native walked just one batter and also struck out one. Bowie's All-Star Tim Berry (5-6) took the loss after he allowed three runs over five innings. Kenn Kasparek entered the game with a pair of inherited runners in the eighth, worked out of that jam, and ultimately picked up the four-out save. The save was Kasparek's team-best seventh of the season.
Altoona continues their series with Bowie on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium. LHP Zack Dodson (2-7, 5.72) will take the bump against Bowie RHP Matt Bischoff (2-3, 3.47). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. while pregame on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM, and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
The Curve will return home on Monday, July 28 for a homestand against the Erie SeaWolves and the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Altoona will start off the homestand with postgame fireworks on July 28 & 29.
