Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Bowie, Md. - Altoona (42-65) took the lead in the second inning on a Willy Garcia two-run homer and the Baysox (54-52) were never able to catch up in a 3-1 loss to the Curve Friday night. Despite three errors and a few baserunning mistakes, the Baysox were not able to make Altoona pay on the scoreboard.
Altoona struck first in the top of the second inning against Baysox starter Tim Berry. Elias Diaz hit a one-out single to second base and Garcia followed with a two-run homer to left field to give the Curve a 2-0 lead.
The Baysox got one run back in the bottom of the second inning against Altoona starter Thomas Harlan. Chris Marrero reached second base on a fielding error by Altoona right fielder Josh Bell and scored after a pair of groundouts to make the score 2-1.
The Curve added to the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Stetson Allie hit a lead off double to left field and Elias Diaz followed with a double to right field that scored Allie and gave Altoona a 3-1 lead.
Berry pitched five innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out three and walking one in the loss. Reliever Steven Hensley pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and walking three while striking out four. Julio DePaula pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out two batters.
Harlan picked up the win for Altoona, throwing six and one-third innings and allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out one and walking one.
RHP Matt Bischoff (2-3, 3.47) takes the mound for the Baysox Saturday as the team plays the third game in a four game home series with the Altoona Curve. He will be opposed by LHP Zack Dodson (2-7, 5.72).
The Baysox are home through Sunday, July 27 for a seven-game homestand that includes games against the Harrisburg Senators and Altoona Curve. Promotional highlights include Superhero Night Saturday, July 26 at 6:35 p.m. and a Tribute to Jimmy Fallon Sunday, July 27 at 6:05 p.m.
