VICTORIA, B.C. -- Every time it seems the Victoria HarbourCats might be slipping out of the playoff picture, a Saturday doubleheader sweep pops up.

The HarbourCats swept their second rain-induced doubleheader of the season -- both taking place on Saturdays, after Friday deluges -- with 7-6 and 3-2 wins over the visiting Walla Walla Sweets at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP.

Earlier, a doubleheaders sweep in Klamath Falls was key to Victoria's team-record nine-game winning streak.

The first game (7-6) ended in walk-off fashion as the HarbourCats tied the game when Reno Rankin scored on a Jackson Thoreson sacrifice fly, and then the last-inning comeback was completed in bizarre fashion when Walla Walla reliever Juan Gamez unleashed a wild pitch on an intentional walk attempt, bringing home Austin Guibor.

Shawn Kennedy ended up the winning pitcher, Gamez took the loss. The big swing for the HarbourCats was a grand slam by Guibor in the fifth inning.

In the second game, the HarbourCats built a 3-1 lead and held on for the 3-2 win with Henry Omana getting the win and Austin Dondanville the save. Michael Gretler had two RBIs and Joe DeMers took the loss for Walla Walla.

The results help the HarbourCats reach 20-21 on the season and within six games of the first place Bellingham Bells in the West Division race, with 13 games to play in the regular season, seven of those at home. In the wildcard hunt, the HarbourCats sit two games back of the Corvallis Knights, who lead a logjam of teams battling hard for that last playoff spot -- the HarbourCats, Sweets, Yakima Valley Pippins, Cowlitz Black Bears, Wenatchee AppleSox and Medford Rogues are all within shouting distance of that final playoff berth.

Matt Blais will start Sunday for the HarbourCats, against RHP Travis Ulvestad.

Sunday is a HUGE (as in BIG) promotional day for the HarbourCats at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP.

It's Cadet Appreciation Day with nine busloads of cadets coming to the park on usedvictoria.com Paint the Park Purple Day. And for those who follow reality TV, it's a Big Brother Canada reunion with Naeha and Sindy-with-an-S meeting up with former castmate Graig Merritt, the head coach of the HarbourCats, and helping throw out the first pitch.
