Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Victoria, B.C.- The Sweets had a long, tough day on Saturday. After a rain out last night, the HarbourCats and the Sweets matched-up for two, and Victoria took both. They won the first 7-6 and the second 3-2. The wins moved the HarbourCats up to 20-21 and the losses dropped the Sweets to the same record.
The Sweets seemed to have game one under control into the fifth. Their 3-0 lead vanished as Victoria hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. Clayton Ayers would give the Sweets the lead right back on a two-run home run in the sixth and Connor Kopach added a solo shot of his own for Walla Walla to give them a 6-4 lead. The seventh was the last inning of the game because both contests were shortened to seven innings due the double header.
The HarbourCats score three times in the bottom of the frame to walk it off. The final blow came on an overthrown intentional-walk pitch.
In game two, it was Victoria that jumped out in front early. They held the lead the whole game, but the Sweets fought back to cut it to a one-run game twice. The Sweets had an opportunity to tie after a lead-off walk in the seventh, but it was erased by a double play.
The HarbourCats and the Sweets will match-up on Sunday for game three at 1:00pm. The game can be heard on ESPN Walla Walla.
