Kelowna Falcons News Release
The Kelowna Falcons scored 7 runs in their last 2 at-bats leading to a 9-1 victory over the Bend Elks Saturday night at Elks Stadium in Kelowna.
Bend got on the board in the first inning after a lead-off double and passed ball moved Cadyn Grenier to 3rd. A bloop single by West Tunnell scored the opening run.
Kelowna would get it back in the 3rd inning when Kyle Plantier lifted a high fly ball to left field with 2 outs. Whether it was the wind or not, the ball landed outside the ballpark for Plantier's 1st of the season.
The Falcons made it 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th inning after JJ Muno singled and stole 2nd base. With 2 outs, Lane Lacrone put one through the left side and Muno beat a wide throw to the plate.
5 innings is what Kelowna would get out of starter Michael Koval, as he picked up his 2nd win. Koval scattered 5 hits while striking out 4.
The Falcons scored twice more off of Bend starter Rio Gomez in the 7th inning on a Plantier double and walk to Grant Meylan with one out. The Elks bullpen struggled relieving Gomez, walking a pair of Falcons hitters, including Hunter Villanueva with the bases loaded.
Another new arm would enter the game, as Mack Gaul hit Justin Flores on the knee to score another run. A Brandon Oliver Sacrifice Fly made it 5-1.
Alex Webb worked 3 innings of scoreless relief, working around a pair of hit batters in the 8th inning. He struck out 5.
Kelowna kept the offense rolling in the 8th, as Muno stole 3rd base after a single and wild pitch, then Plantier picked up his 2nd RBI of the game.
Lane Lacrone would single in a run as well before Villanueva hit a Sac Fly of his own. Flores then ripped a double down the line to make it 9-1.
Spencer Applebach worked a scoreless 9th inning getting the Elks to go down 1,2,3 in his first WCL outing.
With the win, Kelowna now has a 27-14 record, leading the East Division by 6 games. The Falcons will look for a sweep on Sunday at 6:05 with Curtis Taylor on the mound.
