HarbourCats Eke out Win to Close Canada Series
July 1, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
The Victoria HarbourCats closed out their Canada Series with the visiting Langley Senior Blaze on Wednesday with a 12-11 walking-walkoff win, setting the stage for a busy July for the HarbourCats.
Scott Jarvis worked a bases loaded walk from Austin Ell to provide the difference in a game played in perfect baseball weather in front of 1,210 fans at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP.
The fielding and pitching, as the score would indicate, were not the stuff that instructional videos are made of. The teams combined for nine errors and 16 walks.
The HarbourCats built a 10-0 lead through four innings, thanks to four in the first inning, three in the second and three more in the fourth.
Langley scored nine times in the top of the fifth inning on a comedy of plays, then took an 11-10 lead in the top of the seventh inning. That set the stage for Lambert's walk with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
Lambert finished 2-4 with two runs and two driven in. Nick Meyer was 2-2 with a run and an RBI. Kyle Francis earned the win in relief.
The HarbourCats go to face the Corvallis Knights on Friday, Saturday and Sunday then race home to play the Kitsap BlueJackets on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday is Rotary Day at the park, supported by Black Press, and then Wednesday sees the BC Elders Conference.
