HarbourCats Bounce Back in Wenatchee

Maybe the HarbourCats just need more players named Alex -- think of the success of the organization with Alex Real, Alex DeGoti, and even Alex Garcia for a stretch this year.
Add to that, Alex FaGalde, the right-hander who gave a beleaguered bullpen much needed help on Wednesday by pitching deep into Victoria's game in Wenatchee -- one night after the HarbourCats gave up 17 walks in a 13-4 loss that officially eliminated the team from contention in the West Division.
In a 5-0 win for the HarbourCats over the Applesox, FaGalde went eight strong, giving up just six hits and three walks while baffling hitters with eight strikeouts. He also gave up just two hits in his first six innings of work, keeping his ERA at 2.00 on the season. He finally got some run support from the HarbourCats hitters in the 7th off of the bats of Nathan Lukes, scoring Ted Boeke, and Alex DeGoti -- another Alex -- scoring Lukes.
After FaGalde sailed through the bottom of the 7th, and he received more breathing room thanks to back-to-back RBI doubles via Boeke and Bryce Greager, giving the Victorians the 4-0 lead. Alan Baldwin then knocked in Lukes with an RBI single in the top of the 9th, stretching the lead to 5-0. Carson Schneider finished off the game by going 1-2-3 in the bottom half, giving the HarbourCats the win.
The HarbourCats (20-24) can still catch the wildcard spot, but it is a longshot. The team will close out the road series with the AppleSox on Thursday night, with Alex Rogers -- hey look, another Alex, and an all-star this year -- getting the start on the mound.
The HarbourCats return home on Friday to play the Bellingham Bells, on Edge Energy Bar Gamenight, with special pre-game ceremonial pitches that sports fans will NOT want to miss -- Jamie Benn, Jordie Benn and Adam Kreek handling the duties, two Olympians and two NHL stars in that trio mix. The game starts at 7:11pm, and tickets are available at www.harbourcats.com/tickets, or at the gate, or at the team office at 1814 Vancouver Street. The game is presented by the Times Colonist.
On Saturday, the game is a celebration of team mascot Harvey's birthday as Mascotlandia, sponsored by Rifflandia and presented by Black Press, takes the spotlight. On Sunday, it's Island Savings $25K Pitch afternoon game (1:05pm), and the two contestants have been selected and will have a chance in mid-game to win the big money.
The HarbourCats head to Walla Walla for a series next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but return home to close the regular season Friday through Sunday against the Kitsap BlueJackets -- a series that includes the second fireworks night of the season, set for Saturday, August 9.
