Kelowna Falcons News Release
It was a marathon 14 innings on Wednesday night, but the Falcons outlasted the Kitsap Bluejackets 4-3 in the longest game of the year.
It was the Falcons that opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Erik Colombini knocked in Trey Kamachi with a two out single.
The lead however didn't last long when the Jackets scored a pair of runs in the top of third inning off starter Sam Murphy. The lefty lasted six innings allowing just those two run on nine hits and struck out two in a no decision.
After the stretch in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Falcons regained the lead with a pair of runs. Brandon Grimsley singled home Will Fox before Ryan Degner scored the go ahead run.
But again the Jackets responded tying the game in their next at bat off reliever Mike Gould.
The score was tied after the ninth, so both teams played five more innings before the Falcons finally won it. Tommy Lane doubled to lead off the inning, before Joel Lamont was inserted to pinch run. Lamont was moved to third on a ground out setting the table for Colton Waltner (pictured). The Falcons catcher drove the first pitch he saw into centerfield to score the winning run.
The Falcons outhit the Bluejackets 14-13. Scotland Church records the victory on the mound.
The two teams will play the series rubber match on Thursday night at 6:35pm. It's Dos Equis Mexican Night at Elks Stadium and Josh Nuernberg (2-3) will get the start for the Falcons.
