Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

Charleston, WV – The Lakewood BlueClaws (22-44) needed a win and starter J.A. Happ did his best to give the BlueClaws every chance to win the game. Happ needed just one run as the BlueClaws avoided the sweep and snapped a five game losing skid with a 1-0 win over the West Virginia Power (24-42), Single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Happ pitched seven innings of two hit ball allowing just two walks and seven strikeouts in the game. Happ only allowed three base runners to get into scoring position and only two balls left the infield with one of them resulting in a fly ball out.

In the second inning after Grant Richardson reached on a fielder's choice, Richardson moved to second on the walk to Anthony Festa. Both runners advanced up a base with stolen bases to put runners on second and third with one out. Happ was able to get Josh Murray to line out to short for the second out then Adam Mannon grounded out for the final out of the inning.

In the fifth after Murray was hit-by-a-pitch with one out, Freddy Parejo connected for a two out base hit. With runners on first and second and two-outs Happ got Alicides Escobar to pop out to Isaacson for the final out of the inning.

Lakewood plated their first and only run of the game in the third inning with one out for an early 1-0 lead. Timi Moni drew the one out walk then advanced to third after stealing second and the throw from catcher Carols Corporan went into center-field. Moni then scored on a wild pitch from West Virginia starter Greg Kloosterman.

Joe Bisenius pitched the eighth inning allowing one hit while striking out two. Jacob Barrack pitched a perfect ninth to record his third save of the year.

Jesus Merchan was 2-for-4 while Timi Moni finished the night 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.
