Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA â The Rome Braves completed the four game sweep of the Hickory Crawdads in dramatic fashion with Angelo Burrows getting Brian Bixler to strike out swinging with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning in front of an enthusiastic 3,226 fans at State Mutual Stadium.
The Braves jumped out to an early two run lead in the bottom of the first when Mark Jurich hit a two run shot to right-center field to make the score 2-0. The home run was the sixth of the year for Jurich, who leads the team in that category. Hickory got on the scoreboard in the top of the third on a Brian Bixler RBI single up the middle to cut the lead to 2-1. That score wouldn't hold up for long as an Ivan Terrazas double to left-center field scored Cole Armstrong and the ensuing batter J.C. Holt singled scoring Terrazas from second base to put the Braves out in front 4-1.
The Crawdads wouldn't go away as they came up with two runs in the top of the seventh when AJ Johnson doubled to left-center field knocking in Antonio Sucre and Victor Buttler making the score 4-3. In the top of the eighth, Hickory got a leadoff single by Pedro Powell followed by a Bixler base hit to left field but Rome's left-fielder Carl Loadenthal gunned down Powell trying to reach third base on the Bixler single. The Crawdads would go on to put runners on the corners with one out but Arthur Santos would retire the next two batters and get out of the jam. The Braves added on an insurance run in the bottom half of the eighth inning thanks to a fielding error by Jermel Lomack allowing Clint Sammons to score. Final Rome 5 Hickory 3.
Dan Harrison picked up the victory (6-3) and Yoann Torrealba the loss (3-2). Angelo Burrow earned the save (2).
Roster Moves â Prior to tonight's game, Pitcher Juan Alvarez has been out-righted to the Puebla Parrotts of the Mexican League. Infielder Mark Jurich has been promoted to Myrtle Beach of the Carolina League. Jurich was hitting .295 with six home runs and 18 RBI. Rome acquires infielder Bo Brown from Extended Spring Training in Orlando.
Rome hits the road for a seven game trip and returns home on Friday June 24th. For tickets call the ticket hotline at (706) 378-5144.
