CHARLESTON, SC -- Marcus Sanders' single to right field scored Alex Requena with two out in the 11th inning and Brian Wilson tossed the three final innings as the Augusta GreenJackets came from 7-0 behind to defeat the Charleston RiverDogs, 8-7, in 11 innings Tuesday night in South Atlantic League action at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

In losing, the RiverDogs must now wait until at least Thursday to clinch the first-half Southern Division title, as the magic number remains two over second-place Augusta (3.0 games back) with four games to play. The Greenjackets will play their final four games of the half at home against Savannah, while Charleston plays four at Greenville. Rome and Asheville are still alive in the race, but the RiverDogs have a magic number of one to eliminate each of those teams.

With the victory, the GreenJackets take the four-game set, 3-1, and improve to 37-26 on the season while the first-place RiverDogs slip to 41-24. Charleston has now dropped six of their last seven games and finished the eight-game home stand with a 2-6 mark.

Charleston held a 7-3 lead entering the ninth inning but Augusta exploded for four runs, highlighted by Brad Vericker's run-scoring single and Jon Armitage's two-run double.

The RiverDogs had the first half title in their grasp, as they learned of Greenville's 9-3 win over Asheville just before taking the field for the ninth, but saves-specialist Mike Martinez and T. J. Beam -- both named to the All-Star team -- couldn't close the door.

Martinez entered the game to start the ninth and pitched only 1/3 of an inning, allowing four runs on three hits. Beam, who suffered the loss which dropped his seasonal record to 1-3, went 2.2 innings, allowed four hits and the game-winning run.

Charleston starter Jeff Marquez took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and was lifted after six complete frames. On the evening, Marquez allowed only two runs on two hits, walked five and fanned five.

The RiverDogs, whose bats have been relatively quiet during the home stand, sent 11 batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scored seven runs, their highest scoring inning of the season.

In that inning, Edwar Gonzalez singled home two runs and Marcos Vechionacci singled home another. Irwil Rojas also drove home two runs in the frame with a single to left field.

Augusta plated a pair of runs in the sixth inning on a Mike Wagner RBI single and a Brian Horwitz run-scoring single. The GreenJackets added another run in the eighth inning when Sanders tripled to left center and was driven home on Wagner's single to right off of Josh Smith.

Wilson earned the victory for Augusta as he pitched the ninth, tenth and eleventh innings, allowing three hits and striking out four. He improved his record to 5-1.

Sanders led the GreenJackets with three hits while Requena and Wagner had two apiece. Charleston was led offensively by Cody Ehlers and Grant Plumley, who each recorded three hits, and two by Gonzalez and Rojas.

The RiverDogs will enjoy Wednesday off before beginning a four-game set at Greenville on Thursday. Eric Hacker (2-1) will get the call for Charleston while the Bombers counter with Mike Rozier (3-2).
