Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

Kannapolis, NC – Josh Hansen swatted his seventh homer of the year over the wall in left to give the Intimidators a 3-1 win over Hickory in 12 innings. Adam Ricks led off the bottom of the 12th by taking a pitch off his left foot. Hansen came up and smashed the first pitch he saw for the walk off homer.

A combustible finish capped off a night dominated by pitching. Both starters were fantastic. LHP Gio Gonzalez got the ball for Kannapolis allowing just one run on four hits through six innings while striking out ten. RHP Kyle Pearson matched him almost pitch for pitch also allowing just one run on four hits through six innings while striking out ten. Neither figured in the decision as Michael Moat (2-0) got the victory with one inning of perfect relief in the top of the twelfth. Derek Drage (1-2) took the loss giving up his fourth homer of the year.

Hickory took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Mike Carlin hit an RBI single driving home Brian Bixler. Kannapolis tied it in the sixth when David Cook led off the inning with a double. After a wild pitch moved Cook to third, Sean Smith singled to left scoring Cook.

The Crawdads (6-11) and Intimidators (10-7) will meet again tomorrow for the fourth and final game of this four game series. RHP Grant Hansen (0-3 5.02) gets the ball for Kannapolis looking for his first victory of the season. He'll be opposed by RHP Derek Hankins (0-2 5.14). First pitch on a Sunday afternoon is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
