Rain Can't Save Catfish in 8-3 Loss to Rome

Rome, GA- The Rome Braves won their fifth straight in the season series against the Catfish tonight, beating Columbus by an 8-3 final at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, GA. Columbus took a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning but Rome's JC Holt drove home three runs with a triple to give Rome a 4-3 advantaget. The teams waited through a one-hour, twenty minute rain delay but the Catfish could not rally. RHP Landestoy Troncoso started and took the loss for the Catfish on the mound.

Rome led 1-0 in the fourth inning when 2B Brandon Carter tied the game with a double to left-center. CF Jamie Hoffmann gave the Fish a 2-1 lead with his 3rd triple of the season scoring Carter, and DH Travis Denker made it 3-1 Catfish with an RBI single. The lead was short-lived, as Holt ripped the eventual game-winning triple minutes later in the bottom of the fifth. The loss drops the Catfish to 4-11 on the season and Rome improves to 8-7.

In the sixth inning with the Braves batting, RHP Chris Malone on the mound for the Fish and one out, the rains came and delayed action at State Mutual Stadium for well over an hour. It was the first rain delay of the season for the Catfish

Tomorrow the Catfish send RHP Jesus Castillo (1-1, 2.70 ERA) to the hill against RHP Charlie Morton (0-1, 6.92 ERA) for Rome. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM and can be heard on WDAK 540 AM in Columbus.
