Hansen grand slam ruins Liz's strong outing

Frederick, MD -- Radhames Liz went a season high seven innings only surrendering two earned runs on four hits, but that was not enough. Josh Hansen hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth to put the game away, giving Winston-Salem the come from behind victory, 6-4.

Winston-Salem struck first when Warthogs RF Anderson Gomes drove a ball into right-center field, as Gomes rounded second, an errant throw by SS Travis Brown allowed Gomes to trot home to give the Warthogs an early 1-0 lead.

The Keys countered in the bottom of the fourth. Jarod Rine scored after walking and then being driven in by a Bryan Bass triple to right-center. Bass was awarded home when 3B Jose De Los Santos could not handle the Cory Haggerty relay.

Luis Matos, who made a rehab start leading off and playing center field for the Keys, went yard with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth. An inning later, Dustin Yount hit his second round tripper of the year to deep center field to put the Keys up 4-1.

Liz came back on in the eighth, but faced control problems walking two before Russell Petrick came on in relief. Petrick then yielded a grand slam to Josh Hansen to give the Warthogs the 6-4 lead.

That is how it stayed as Petrick took his third loss of the season, while Dewon Day earned the win tossing 3.0 innings allowing two runs. Jay Marshall earned his first save tossing 0.2 scoreless innings.

The Keys will conclude their four game set with the Warthogs at 11AM. LHP Garrett Olson will take the hill for Frederick. Thursday is Baseball In Education day at Harry Grove Stadium.
