
Blue Rocks Drop Third Straight

Wilmington, DE --- The Blue Rocks (13-14) lost their third game in row with a 5-1 loss to the Potomac Nationals (14-11), Carolina League affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Potomac rallied late with five unanswered runs over the seventh and eighth innings for their third straight win.
The Blue Rocks led 1-0 entering the seventh inning but Potomac began the inning with three consecutive base hits to take a 2-0 lead. Devin Ivany and Brandon Powell led off the frame with base hits then Luke Montz followed up with a single to right plating Ivany to tie the game at 1-1. Brandon Powell also scored on the play when Mickey Hall's return throw into the infield sailed away from third baseman Chuck Jeroloman.
Potomac put the game out of reach in the eighth inning plating three runs for a 5-1 lead. Ivany connected for an RBI single scoring Seth Bynum from third. Two batters later Montz connected for a two-run double scoring Tony Blanco and Ivany to cap off the Nationals scoring.
Wilmington reliever Beau Vaughan (0-1) suffered his second blown save of the year and also took the loss allowing all five runs (four earned) on four hits. Vaughan also walked two and struck out one.
Southpaw Tommy Hottovy started the game and recorded the no decision allowing no runs on five hits over 5.2 innings. Hottovy also struck out four and did not walk a batter.
The Blue Rocks one run came in the fourth inning when Jeroloman doubled home John Otness to give Wilmington a 1-0 lead. Otness led off the inning with a single then moved up to third on Ian Bladergroen's double.
Claudio Arias followed up hitting into a double play when he lined a shot to the diving shortstop Bynum. Bynum then threw over to second base where Bladergroen was caught off the bag. Jeroloman, fresh off his promotion for Single-A Greenville on Tuesday, followed up with his first hit as a Blue Rock scoring Otness.
The Blue Rocks wrap their series and home stand with the Potomac Nationals on Thursday, May 4 with Wilmington sending right-hander Matt Goodson (0-0, 0.00) to the mound. The Nationals will counter with righty Colin Balester (0-2, 7.94). Game time is at 6:35 p.m.
Game Notes: Catcher John Otness extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The Blue Rocks struck out a season low on Wednesday four times.
Tommy Hottovy has not allowed an earned run to score in 24.2 innings
