
Hamme's Walk-Off Double Wins It for Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS, NC (April 23, 2011) - The Kannapolis Intimidators rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture their first walk-off win of the season, 8-7 over the West Virginia Power in the first game Saturday's doubleheader. Doubleheaders in the South Atlantic League consist of two seven inning games.
With two on and two out, RF Ryan Hamme drove in 1B Dan Black on a double to left-center field for the winning run. The previous batter, 3B Juan Silverio, drove in the tying run with a double down the right field line.
The Intimidators got their first six runs in the second inning, when the first six batters who stepped to the plate came around to score. DH Rafael Vera and 2B Drew Lee each drove in two runs in the inning.
The Power scored in each of the first three innings, including putting three across the plate in the top of the third to tie the game 6-6. First Baseman Matt Curry broke the tie with a solo homerun to lead off the top of the fourth inning, giving the Power the 7-6 lead they enjoyed until the bottom of the seventh.
Intimidators starter Kevin Moran lasted just two innings and gave up six runs on five hits. He was replaced by Steven Upchurch who went four innings and gave up one run on two hits. Jimmy Ballinger (2-0) got the win for Kannapolis as he pitched the seventh inning without allowing a run to cross the plate.
Casey Sadler (0-1) got the loss and a blown save. He gave up two runs on five hits in 2/3 of an inning of work. Colton Cain got the start for West Virginia, and was replaced in the top of the third after allowing six runs on five hits.
The teams conclude their five game series in game 2 of the doubleheader later tonight at Fieldcrest Cannon stadium at 8:55pm. On the hill for Kannapolis will be RHP Ryan Buch (1-2, 3.63) against RHP Zach Von Rosenberg (0-0, 5.40) for West Virginia.
