Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets leave on Monday for a nine-game road swing after an off day on Easter Sunday but it appears as though they'd already packed away their bats for the road trip. The GreenJackets were held to just three hits as Delmarva opened up a pitchers' duel late to come away with a 6-1 win over Augusta on Saturday night to take three of five from the GreenJackets.

Both starters threw six solid innings in a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate. Augusta's Taylor Rogers (0-3) delivered his second straight solid start, firing six innings and allowing two runs on three hits and two walks. Rogers struck out eight, the most strikeouts in a single game by any GreenJackets starter this season.

Delmarva's Luis Noel was just a shade better though, firing six solid innings for the win. Noel (1-1) allowed just an unearned run on three hits and three walks while striking out four.

The Shorebirds blew open a 2-1 game with a big eighth inning. Jacob Dunnington walked the bases loaded with one out and fell behind to Mike Flacco by two balls and no strikes. Flacco responded with a bases-clearing double to bring home three. On the throw to the plate, Flacco tried to advance to third and scored himself when Dan Burkhart's throw to third went down the left field line, bringing home a fourth run on the play.

Delmarva drew first blood, getting the lead in the second inning on Michael Ohlman's two-out RBI triple. Augusta responded in their half of the second, getting back-to-back singles from Rafael Rodriguez and Ydwin Villegas. Chris Lofton's grounder to short was mishandled, allowing Rodriguez to score and tie the game at one. The Shorebirds reclaimed a 2-1 lead in the third after an RBI groundout from Kieron Pope brought home the go-ahead run.

Augusta had their chances despite just three hits, as the GreenJackets saw nine additional base runners thanks to six Shorebirds walks, two errors and a dropped third strike. The basepaths were not kind to the GreenJackets, however, as three GreenJackets were caught stealing and another was picked off as those miscues killed four potential big innings.

After a day off, the GreenJackets open up a nine-game road trip with the first of a five-game series against the Hickory Crawdads on Monday. First pitch will come at 7:05 in Hickory with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.

Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
