Legends Win See-Saw Game 8-7 Saturday

SAVANNAH, GA - The Lexington Legends scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning to beat the Savannah Sand Gnats 8-7 Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (7-9) finished their first home stand of 2011 with a 5-4 record.

In a 7-7 game in the eighth, Gnats reliever Luis Rojas walked Lexington speedster Delino Deshields to open the inning. DeShields stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error on catcher Blake Forsythe with one out. Legends RF Adam Bailey singled crisply over the Gnats drawn-in infield to bring home DeShields with the go-ahead run.

The Gnats built a 4-0 lead through three innings. The Gnats scored twice in the first with the help of a Lexington error. In the third inning, Savannah 3B Aderlin Rodriguez connected for his first home run of the year, a two-run blast.

The Legends (9-8) came back with six runs in the fourth and fifth innings against Savannah starter Greg Peavey. In the fourth, a bases loaded triple from LF Bryce Lane made the score 4-3 Savannah. In the fifth, 3B Mike Kvasnicka launched a two-run double to left over a leaping effort from LF Alonzo Harris on the warning track to put Lexington in front 6-5.

The Gnats evened the game at 7-7 in the seventh. With two on and two out, Aderlin Rodriguez lifted a fly ball to center that Lexington misplayed into a two-base error allowing the tying runs to score. Rodriguez finished 2-5 with a home run and two RBI.

The Gnats are off Sunday before beginning a nine-game road trip in Delmarva on Monday night against the Shorebirds.
