Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - Milan Bartovic scored with just 14.4 seconds remaining in regulation time to give the Rochester Americans a 3-2 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Blue Cross Arena on Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs record through 49 games now stands at 19 wins, 21 losses, 5 overtime losses and 4 shootout losses.
The Amerks scored the first goal of the game on the power play at 12:09 of the first period. Rochester defenceman Jeff Jillson took a shot from the blue line that went through a maze of players and into the Bulldogs goal. Nathan Paetsch and Tomas Vanek added assists on the goal.
Rochester jumped out to a 2-0 lead at 6:32 of the second period when forward Norm Milley scored his eighth goal of the season. Milley received a Jiri Novotny pass on an odd-man rush and made no mistake as he one-timed the shot past Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis.
The Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard at 1:48 of the third period. Hamilton rookie forward Andrei Kostitsyn took a weak wrist shot from the slot that rolled off the catching glove of Amerks goaltender Ryan Miller and into the Amerks net.
Chris Higgins would tie the game 2-2 for Hamilton by scoring at 5:11 on the power play. Higgins stepped out from the left corner and banked a shot off Miller's stick for his 14th goal of the season. Earning assists on the goal were Tomas Plekanec and Trevor Daley. With the assist, Plekanec now has 147 points (58g, 89a) with Hamilton in his career, and is fourth in Bulldogs all-time scoring.
The Amerks would then eventually win the game with Milan Bartovic's fifth goal of the season with just 14.4 seconds remaining. Bartovic's shot just trickled over the goal line.
Despite making 40 saves, Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis suffered the loss. Amerks netminder Ryan Miller earned his league leading 26th win of season by stopping 24 shots.
The Bulldogs scored once on four power play opportunities, while Rochester had one goal on six opportunities with the man advantage.
The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Friday, February 4th when they take on the St. John's Maple Leafs at Mile One Stadium. Bulldogs fans can listen to Derek Wills call all the action, beginning with the pre-game show at 5:50 p.m., on 820 CHAM in Hamilton, the Team 990 in Montreal, and on the Internet at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com.
