LOWELL, Mass. - Matt Halischuk posted five points - including four goals - to lead the Lowell Devils to a 6-4 win over the Worcester Sharks in their home opener on Saturday at the Tsongas Arena. In what was just his second professional contest, Halischuk tied a team record for goals in a game and points in a game set by David ! Clarkson on January 12, 2007 versus Philadelphia.

Tied 2-2 entering the second period, the Devils thought they had broken the game open with the help of Halishuck's first professional hat trick. Already with a shorthanded goal on the night, the rookie right wing notched two power play goals in the first five minutes of the frame. Jon DiSalvatore fed a pass from the slot at 2:27 that found Halischuk alone on the far post for the easy tap-in. Halischuk struck again 1:44 later for his third goal of the night with a sweep shot under the leg pad of goalie! Thomas Greiss.

Worcester would battle back, however, in the second to pull even. Frazer McLaren deflected Jason Demers point shot at 7:03 to cut the Devils to one, and tied the game 4-4 with 3:30 left until the break on a power play goal by Mike Morris.

Lowell recaptured their edge in the final frame with two quick tallies over 37 seconds. Patrick Davis made the score 5-4 for the Devils, as he pounced on a loose puck in front of Greiss and threw past the fallen goaltender. Halischuk then struck one last time, as he was the benefactor of a DiSalvatore feed for a one-timer in the slot that beat Greiss glove-side. The assist was DiSalvatore's fourth of the night, setting career highs for assists and points in a game and also tying a team-record for assi! sts in a game (4 - Olivier Magnan, 2/26/08 at Manchester).

Devils goalie Scott Clemmensen helped the lead stand with 39 saves on 43 shots in the match. Sharks center Corey Larose struck first in the game with a marker on the man-advantage. The duo of DiSalvatore and Halishuck evened the score a half minute afterwards, as the latter deposited a shorthanded goal.

Nicklas Bergfors and Larose traded tallies later in the first to send both teams into the locker room with the scoreboard reading 2-2. The Devils went 3-for-8 on the man-advantage and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The Devils will next take on the Manchester Monarchs in a home-and-home series. Lowell will host on Friday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m. at Tsongas Arena before traveling to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday, October 18th at 7:30 p.m. Listen to all of the action live on 980AM-WCAP as Ryan Johnston brings you all of the play-by-play Individual tickets and season ticket packages are on sale now for the 2008-09 season.
