Hair Homers Twice in Crawdads Defeat

Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads returned home to LP Frans Stadium on Tuesday evening but were unable to take home the victory against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, falling 18-4.

The Hot Rods took an early lead, jumping on 'Dads started Justin Slaten for a pair of runs in the first inning.

Trey Hair evened the score in the home half of the first with a homerun to right-center in his first ever at-bat at LP Frans Stadium. Kellen Strahm had led off the inning with a single and had been replaced on the basepaths by Jonathan Ornelas who hit into a force out. Ornelas came in to score on Hair's homerun.

Bowling Green quickly retook the lead, putting up 3 runs in the 2nd inning to take a 5-2 lead. They added on 4 more in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th to make the score 14-2. The game went scoreless until the 7th, when the Hot Rods got another run on a solo homerun to right.

Hair, who started the game as the designated hitter, took over on the mound in the eighth, recording two outs, including a strikeout.

In the bottom of the 8th, Jared Walker drew a walk to get on the bases for Hair. Hair, still in the game as a pitcher, sent a ball over the right field fence to bring the score to 15-4. 

The Hot Rods pushed back with three runs in the ninth off Hair to pull ahead 18-4, the game's final score.

Tomorrow night will be the Crawdads will be celebrating the Outer Banks. It is also Kids Win Wednesday presented by Arby's and all kids 12 and under will get a free ticket to the game, meal voucher, and a voucher for the speed pitch, carousel, and bounce house. It is also Wine Wednesday so come out for discounted wine and a free sampling from Catawba Farms and Carolina Vines.
